CWD: Late Dispatches, Letters and Papers

Hiljaiseloa ompeluhuoneessa... kuten aina kesäisin...
... mutta kesäkuukausien Ciwil War Diary blokit yritän ommella - toivottavasti ajallaankin!

I made this CWD block by halfing squares in different sizes.

An easy block, although it seems much more complicated!

Maybe the next block on Sunday, 1st June, is not so easy one...

... at least I'm gonna need Tri-recs tools! And 9 -patch squares need templates or cm -ruler...

So we'll see on Sunday!!!!

CWD: The Farce of Reconstruction & My Diary, My Records

I supposed to sew these two Civil War Diary blocks yesterday, but I didn't have time...
so I am late...
and I feel myself lazy... so I'll do this all in brief...

Here are the next CWD blocks:

120. The Farce of Reconstruction

121. My Diary, My Records

They are the last two blocks of the book. The notes are written by Sarah Lois Wadley in 1865 after the war.

If you like to have dimensions of the blocks... let me know, I'll post them to you...

I wish you a happy Wednesday!!!!!

PS. Next CWD block 29th May!!!!

CWD: Lincolnites Whipped

May 10, 1864. Cora Owens Hume wrote in her diary: Snow this morning, 10th day of May, but snow soon turned to rain and it has been very disagreeable all day. A week or two ago General Kirby Smith, General Magruder and Dick Taylor whipped General Banks up Red River near Shreveport. The Lincolnites were terrible whipped. We know nothing definite as to the particular in regard to it, for the Links did not let the news of the battle out at all for a long time and then it was indefinite. --- Butler telegraphed "I whipped yesterday" but does not say that he whipped some poor man for resenting the treatment of the soldiers or for some less offense. (quotes from Civil War Diary Quilt, written by R. Youngs)

To make this 6" block, you need a pile of triangles:

* 4 white, 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" squares, which you then cut in half diagonally twice to have 16 triangles
* 2 pink and 2 brown 2 3/4" x 2 3/4" squares, which you also have to cut in half diagonally twice to have 8 pink and 8 brown triangles
* 4 pink and 4 brown 2 3/8" x 2 3/8" squares, which you cut in half once to make 8 pink and 8 brown triangles

A few photos of sewing...

... to avoid bulkiness I pressed the seam like this...

... and block 64. Lincolnites whipped.

We'll see next two CWD blocks on Tuesday, 13th May...

and tomorrow we will celebrate with mother!
... I'll go now and whip some cream for her cake ;o)...

Onnellisen viljelijän vaimo...

... vai toisin päin?

This week my Farmer's wife block storage increased at least by this one...
#106 Wild Rose and Square

... and while I made it, I wrote down some dimensions and so on...

The dimensions of HST units are a little bit larger than is needed. You know me, I like after trims;o)

I am glad, that I noticed this block is exactly same as one CWD block in June!... although the coloring and placement of pieces is a bit different.
Wov, I have already made the calculations for the one CWD block;o)

Happy Wednesday Evening!!!

Farmer's Wife Sampler - blocks 16 & 63

... tällä viikolla vielä pari helppoa blokkia...

This week we are sewing together block #63 Ozark Maple Leaf.
It's an easy block... actually it looks much more complicated...

Kirjasin taas tehdessäni mittoja ylös... jospa Tilkku&Tilkku tarvitsisi niitä;o)

Because #63 was so easy, I decided to sew also the other, much more easier block...
#16 Calico Puzzle

Here's a shortened quote from the FWS quilt book (written by L. A. Hird)...

... in which Mrs. L. C. F. answered the question: "If you had a daughter of marriageable age, would you, in the light of your experience, want her to marry a farmer?"

I wish that you are able to live this weekend to the fullest...

Nine Patch on Point - Aurifil Designer 2014

Toisaalta kaltaiselleni näpertelijälle on rentouttavaa ommella isoja, yksinkertaisia blokkeja

No way!!! Minähän näytän aivan.... aivan... kukkahattutädiltä, jolla ei kuitenkaan ole hattua.

Niin muuten, missäs se minun hattu viipyy? Onko sitä edes etsitty näinä kuukausina?"

On etsitty... en vaan vielä ole löytänyt sitä. Voisithan sinä edes kokeilla sitä!

Aurifil's May designer is Amy Smart from Diary of a Quilter. I'm not sure. if you remember, but I sewed with her last year in Virtual Quilting Bee. You still find those blocks on her blog...

Look, how pretty Lapland girl is with a rose in her hair! And she is presenting this Aurifil block just fine. Don't you agree?

"Älä nyt, Satu, tule osoittelemaan sen kameran kanssa!"

Olisikohan näitä hauska tikkailla herkullisen värisillä Aurifil -langoilla? Toivottavasti arpa osuisi jonain kuukautena kohdalleni...

Mukavaa viikonloppua!!!
